In 2001, Aspen Valley Hospital built and dedicated a multi-million dollar conference center in Oden, which was dedicated to him in 2001. He was also a driving force behind the development of Aspin Valley Medical Center and the creation of a new medical school in Colorado Springs.
During that time, he noted that the U.S. ski team did not have a medical pool to travel and help the team. He recruited several well-known sports medicine orthopaedists from Aspin Valley Medical Center and the University of Colorado, Boulder, who traveled with him and his team at the time. They provided orthopedic services at the clinic and often covered many miles a week to reach the western slopes of Colorado.
The new center in Aspen will benefit from five distinguished surgeons dedicated to full-time work at the site. The Aspens team will be led by Dr. Jared Lee, who will serve as medical director for the new site, as well as a number of faculty members from Aspin Valley Medical Center.
Dr. Lee will be supported in Aspen by Dr. Joseph D. Pfeiffer, MD, of the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, who will assist him on an interim basis. Drs. Matthew D'Amato and Sachar Srinivasan, both of Aspin Valley Medical Center, will rotate in addition to their roles at the new center at the Steadmen Clinic's headquarters in Vail.
The addition of surgeons continues a trend of Steadman Fellows returning to the Steadmen Clinic to learn and refine their skills. The group also includes two surgeons who are in the final stages of their training at Aspen Valley Medical Center.
Dr. Ruzbarsky completed his fellowship last spring, and Dr. Khan Farooqi continues his training as an ankle specialist at Aspen Valley Medical Center as part of his residency program. Drs. Lee was a member of the 2012-13 scholarship class and received a fellowship in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver and the US Ski and Snowboard Combined in Colorado Springs, where he served as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Colorado State University. In 2012, he moved to Vail, where he provided medical care to the U.S. ski and snowboard team and has since focused on hip replacement.
